Laser Skin Treatment – Advantages and Disadvantages
Posted by admin in Skin Disorders on July 23, 2011
Laser skin treatment is becoming increasingly popular as it can be employed for many types of common skin problems including unwanted facial hair, acne, sun damage, wrinkles and birthmarks.
The advantages of laser skin treatment far outweigh its disadvantages. It is good for people who want to get rid of unwanted hair on body and face. Although it does not guarantee complete and permanent removal of hair, it does help to slow down their growth and also works well for removing thick and coarse hair, especially on the face.
The procedure of laser treatment has also been found to be effective for the cure of acne and wrinkles. Laser can be used anywhere on the body wherever the problem is. It is also safe to be used on the face except too close to the eyes. Laser skin treatment is effective for many types of acne including whiteheads, blackheads and pimples.
If you suffer from a sun-damaged skin, laser treatment will prove to be very helpful if all other treatments have failed you. If you have decided to go through laser skin treatment you should be prepared to expect skin redness and even slight burns if high energy is used or required for the treatment of your condition.
One of the disadvantages of laser treatment is that it is quite expensive. Furthermore, many skin conditions would require multiple sessions for a complete cure. Although laser has been proven to be safe, some people still experience side effects like burns and skin rash. Topical medicines to reduce the effects of laser are prescribed to people undergoing this treatment.
In my opinion, you should first try other treatments for the cure of above-mentioned skin disorders before going for laser. Thermal treatment like the one provided by Zeno acne clearing device, over-the-counter topical treatments like creams and lotions, and oral medications are good alternatives of laser skin treatment.

What is the Difference Between Concealer and Cover Makeup
Posted by admin in Skin Disorders on December 30, 2010
Cover Makeup, Corrective Makeup, Camouflage Makeup, Concealer
These are makeup terms you may have heard but what do they mean?
Their names are self descriptive. These are special makeups that cover, correct, camouflage or conceal severe skin discolorations. These makeups are used by women, men and children as no one group is immune to scarring, skin discolorations or skin disorders.
What is the difference between cover makeup and concealers?
Concealers are carried by just about all makeup companies. A concealer commonly comes in a tube with a sponge tip applicator. Concealers are good for covering minor skin discolorations such as minor breakouts, mild undereye circles or slight redness. These are designed for spot coverage. Concealers have less pigment than corrective makeups
Cover, corrective, camouflage or super concealing makeups are the heavy hitters for extreme coverage. They are designed for skin problems when a concealer just won’t cut it. Heavy duty cover products are hard to find in stores and typically can be found using the internet. Birthmarks, tattoos, scars, vitiligo, rosacea and severe undereye circles are just some examples of problems that require cover makeup.
You know you need a cover makeup when products purchased in department and drug stores don’t work. It is time to invest in cover or corrective makeup specifically designed to cover severe skin conditions. You won’t find these easily is stores so the internet is your best bet.
Perform an internet search using terms such as:
Cover makeup
Concealer makeup
Camouflage makeup
Tattoo makeup
Scar makeup
Browse through the websites and look for before and after pictures. Getting the right color can be tricky. Since cover makeups are highly pigmented, you may have to blend colors to get an exact match. Some companies offer trial or sample packs. This is the best way to start before investing in full size products. ColorTration is one company that carries trial kits. These are available at http://www.colortration.com

Skin Disorders
Posted by admin in Skin Disorders on December 26, 2010
The skin is perhaps the most complex of all the bodily organs. It is made up of three layers such as the epidermis – the skin’s outermost layer, dermis – the thicker layer of skin beneath the epidermis, and subcutaneous, which consists of nerves as well as blood vessels. Skin disorders usually affect the epidermis, and may be mostly due to bacterial, fungal, and viral infections. In some instance, skin disorders can be a symptom of an underlying illness or due to some imbalances in the immune system. Mentioned below are among the different types of skin disorders.
Skin disorders are classified into five broad categories based on its symptoms and causes, and they include viral skin disorders, inflammatory skin disorders, fungal skin disorders, bacterial skin disorders, and skin cancer.
Viral Skin Disorders
Mostly, skin problems caused due to viral infections are temporary however it may leave scarring if not treated on time. Viral skin problems include:
Chicken pox Measles Warts Herpes simplex virus (Type 1) Herpes simplex virus (Type 2) Inflammatory Skin Problems
Inflammatory skin disorders are characterized by irritation as well as inflammation on the skin. The skin diseases that fall under this category are:
Acne Eczema Sebaceous cysts Psoriasis Diaper rashes Fungal Skin Disorders
This type of skin disorder usually occurs when microorganism enters the skin through cuts and wounds in order to cause infections. Prominent among the fungal skin disorders are:
Ringworm Athlete’s Foot Candida Bacterial Skin Problems
Bacterial skin disorders, as the name suggests, are caused due to bacterial infections. The diseases that occur because of bacterial infections cover:
Barber’s Itch, also known as Folliculitis Impetigo Skin cancer
Skin cancer is one of the common types of cancers, and includes three different types such as:
Basal cell cancer Squamous cell carcinoma Melanoma
Diagnosis and Treatment
In most cases, problems that occur on the skin are just confined to skin only. However, in rare cases, it may affect the whole body. Hence, it is important to diagnose and get it treated at the earliest. Doctors usually provide treatments on the basis of detailed blood tests and laboratory tests. A number of options are available to treat skin disorders in the form of creams, lotions, ointments, solutions, powders, gels, and tropical drugs. Herbal and natural remedies are also proved to be helpful to cure skin disorders.

Facial skin problems (Nodules)?
Posted by admin in Skin Disorders on September 13, 2010
I have had normally clear skin most of my life. As I have aged into my late 20′s though, it seems as if my skin on my face and back are getting more oily by the year. I have recently began developing pimples and spots around my chin area, and yesterday I noticed a large and very painful nodule (under-the-skin-pimple) on my chin. It got so painful in fact, I couldn’t really talk or move my mouth without it hurting really bad. I woke up about 3 a.m. this morning to use the bathroom, and noticed that my whole bottom lip was very swollen. Too embarrassed to go to work, I stayed home and religiously rubbed peroxide and Salicylic Acid on it hoping to dry it out or ease the pain. I just wish it would go away. The swelling in my lip had subsided but it didn’t until almost lunchtime today. I have a feeling it will do the same thing tomorrow, and I have an important meeting then. What can I do to ease the pain and get rid of this? I can’t pop it, because there is no white head. Thanks
